      Course Description

      General principles of organization and management of health programs and health agencies; relationships of participant’s institution to the other agencies in the National Health Plan. Operation of participant’s institution, his own and other’s role within it.  Utilization of these principles in educational change.

       In this course, students will look into their own organizations within the perspective of understanding how it works and how it can be managed more effectively.

    • The characteristics or attributes of an organization is a reflection, in more ways than one, of the vision, mission, and beliefs of stakeholders behind the organization.

      In this unit, we will discuss the different organizational theories and in the end use your understanding of these theories to analyze and eventually write a technical paper about your (selected) organization. Because of the current context, you will work collaboratively online on assigned group topics.

      • Group 1: The Impact of Industrial Revolution and the Rise of Classical Organizational Theory 
      • Group 2: The Human Relations Movement

      Tasks:

      1. Collaborate online to prepare a 10 minute video presentation on the assigned topic
      2. Aside from making sure that salient points are covered, examples should be given to help the audience understand the theories being presented.
      3. You are free to use any presentation format.
      4. Post your video outputs or their links in the discussion board on or before Oct 5, 2021 9:00pm

      Two important initial steps in any planning process is problem analysis and problem prioritization.

      Therefore, your assignment is to be able to do the following:

      1. Identify a core problem that you want to change through a 'strategic action plan.'
      2. Analyze this core problem using available problem analysis tools. Your first output should be a graphical presentation of your problem analysis.
      3. After doing a detailed problem analysis, your next step is to do a problem prioritization. You can use the tools discussed in class to do problem prioritization.

      In the first part of the course, you were asked to look at and describe your respective organizations.

      In this section, our concern is the same, but this time your focus is on whether your current organizational structure is enough to address the implementation need of your proposed project.

      Following the inputs in the accompanying powerpoint lecture, prepare an implementation structure that considers the factors as discussed in the presentation.

      The Mini Research project should be completed in groups.  The goal is to generate a simple research question on organizational leadership, collect the appropriate data and write up a report following the format provided (see attached file).  To start the project rolling, you are expected to attend the consultation session on Nov 23, 2021 to discuss your group's accomplished MRP Project Plan (see attached file).

      Submission of final report will be on Dec 21, 2021.

      Reflective Activity 

      (See /Read Chapter 8, Organizational Change, Organizational Behavior in Education by Owens and Valesky)

      Reflect on a major change that has occurred in a school or organization with which you are familiar. Using Kurt Lewin's concept of force-field analysis, identify the driving and restraining forces that were in play prior to and during the change process that helped unfreeze and drive the organization towards change (page 236-240).

      After reading the material on Organizational change, plan out how you think your proposed program or project will impact your organization and how the emergent changes can be planned out and managed.

      1. Provide a brief introduction of your proposed project.

      2.  Explain what you think may be the impact of the project to the organization.  Consider all aspects of the organization.  Identify points of possible sources of conflicts within the organization.

      3. Perform a Force-Field Analysis to show the restraining and driving forces that will influence the success of the project.

      4.  Based on the results of the Force-Field Analysis, develop specific strategies you plan to do for your project.  Include strategies to manage possible conflicts.

    Your final paper will also serve as your final examination. To serve as final examination, be sure to provide all the theoretical discussion requirement of each Chapter and Section.
