Organization and Management (Section A)

Assignment Objectives:

Students should be able to:

1. Utilize understanding of the different organizational theories in analyzing their own organization.
2. Write a technical paper discussing result of the comprehensive analysis of their selected organization.

Citations: All assigned readings must be cited in the paper. 

Tasks:

1. Use your organization which you have selected and introduced in class.
2. Get approval from organizational leaders for access and use of organizational data.
3. Analyze your organization in terms of the following organizational theories:
1. Classical Organization theory
2. Human Resource Management theory
3. Theory X and Theory Y
4. Analyze your organization in terms of Systems theory:
   1. Describe your school as a social system.
   2. Discuss whether your organization is an open or closed system. (illustrate using a social system diagram)
5. Describe your organization according to Mintzberg's configuration.  Illustrate your configuration.  Label the parts and identify your type of organization and your stage of development.
6. Finally, explain your role and position in the organization.  Situate yourself within the organization.
7. Be ready to present your output in class on October 19.

Your output will be evaluated using the following scoring guide:

Application of the theories in the organizational analysis

• Classical Organization theory (20 pts)
• Human Resource Management theory (20 pts)
• Theory X and Theory Y (20 pts)
• Systems theory (35 pts)
• Mintzberg's configuration theory (35 pts)

Identification of one's role in the organization  (10 pts)

Effective use of illustrations/ diagrams (25 pts)

Proper use of APA format for citations and reference list (5 pts)

Promptness (5 pts)
