Yes, testing will be very useful in assessing my unit outcomes especially those that evaluate psychomotor skills. In our surgical rotation, testing allows us to determine the competency of our student learners in performing basic surgical procedures for the general practitioner. Testing to evaluate skill dexterity, refinement and safety is of paramount importance to allowing medical graduates to competently perform basic surgical procedures independently after they graduate.

I agree with the value of testing psychomotor skills among our students, especially as they shift out of our department. Personally I am not so convinced about the grand OSCE that happens at the end of the year for LU5 students -- I feel that for their level, OSCEs are better done piecemeal, while they are still rotating.
