I think that I am an okay clinical teacher as I am always able to find ways to correlate what my students studied with the actual patient or clinical situation. However, I still need to become a better facilitator particularly when the group becomes a little bigger so that I may be able to include everyone in the discussion. I also need to release and unearth my creative juices so that my student encounters and style of teaching will remain fresh, current and innovative in order to sustain my student's interest and attention during the clinical teaching process.

It is really a challenge to handle bigger groups of trainees in the clinical setting. I think that as you will learn and discover other innovative ways of delivering instruction in the clinical setting, you will be able to design learning experiences that can cater to bigger groups without having to sacrifice student engagement and participation.

I think I am a good clinical teacher most of the time, but not to the same degree for all my students. There are learners who match my teaching style better than others, but I continually look for ways to adjust so that I can accommodate more learning styles. I feel that the main attributes that makes one a good clinical teacher are humility to realize what one lacks, and a willingness to bridge what is missing. Most of the time, I feel that I am motivated to embody these, but I think I need to develop more patience.

I agree that patience is truly something all teachers should have. I guess if we are truly concerned with the progress of our trainees, patience will just come naturally :)

Adapting to the student's learning style is a sign of maturity which tells you that you are not too stubborn to stick with your own ways and that you are willing to go to great lengths for your student to learn more effectively.

Flexibility. Or maybe just being able to understand where your students are coming from. As a teacher, we have our own beliefs and philosophies, and it would be difficult to change or adapt to every student. However, having a deep understanding of pedagogy and how students learn, including the variety of ways and styles that students learn is a sign of a "mature" and "expert teacher.

Although I have minimal experience as a clinical teacher, I think I am still a novice in the actual practice of being one. I am well aware about the psychological and philosophical theories and principles about education and teaching young adults, but I am yet to put these knowledge into practice. I am currently handling interns but in a non-clinical setting (academic rotation), and utilize the approach wherein I assign the intern to teach a particular topic, and I give feedback to his or her performance. I rate his or her skills and performance base on a rubric. I believe that I possess the knowledge of the proper way to teach young adults, and the proper timing to give feedback and to ensure improvement through feedback and assessments. I believe that I still need to balance my time between my role as an educator to undergraduate students and as a supervisor to my interns, as my teaching job consumes too much time. I believe that I also need to improve the program for the rotation to cater the specific skills that are needed to be developed in the intern.

Knowing the theories and principles is always a good place to start. I have been teaching for a long time without having studied these concepts beforehand and am now wondering how this would have altered and developed my current way of teaching.

This will help in developing the "non-clinical" rotations for our PT interns. That's why we again go back to the outcomes. What roles do we expect them to be able to play at the end of internship? What will this specific rotation contribute to these roles? What specific outcomes should be achieved at the end of the rotation?
