Am I a good clinical teacher?
Yes and no. Such as another dichotomy in this world.
Yes because I believe I have been given an opportunity and privilege to be a member of the faculty of the UP College of Medicine as an associate Professor. "Good" perhaps in this context is situational and not performance based. To effect change and learning for many years as lecturing to medical students is testament to that fact. The privilege of imparting my personal beliefs and important knowledge relevant to my specialized field is overwhelming.
No, since I am not sure whether the collective feedback of how our students favorably fare in the licensure examination is the positive feedback of being a “good clinical teacher”. Unfortunately, that is our only objective acceptable standard by which my efforts are measured by.
What attributes do I possess that make one?
I think I have reached the stage where I still believe I still must learn a lot more than what I know now despite my senior years. Humility has crept upon me in the realization that one’s stature/wisdom(?) does not exactly mean I have taught/transmitted these lofty attributes to our students.
What attributes do I still need to develop?
I need to be curious of finding better ways to teach. More importantly to develop objective standards for success (personal or otherwise) of whether we are effective as "the teacher".
