When I was a resident, I got most helpful feedback from more senior residents who served as buddies in our LR-DR, OPD, ward rotations, and surgeries. I had one senior resident who was very kind to me and everyone else. She frequently smiles, validates the things I do well, such as nodding and giving verbal signals such as "you're a very good assist," and makes tips on how to better this and that, as well as how to perform the proper surgical techniques. Most of my consultants don't give direct feedback and simply say thank you after rounds, deliveries, and operations, so I have no idea if what I was doing was right and I assumed I might be correct? Other consultants will provide feedback during active staff meetings, and the feedback will be relayed to us through our chief resident, which made us all nervous following the meeting. The lack of feedback during training inhibits learning since it prohibits you from addressing problems immediately.

Agree. Thats why when I became a consultant myself, I make it a point that if I need to comment and give feedback, I will directly give it to the concern resident.
