I remember when I was an OB-Gyn resident, i really like to teach and share my knowledge and skills especially to my younger colleagues, the junior residents, clerks and interns. I used to do a short discussions with them about the cases we are labor watching,  and even give a short quiz after. Because of this, i am forced to learn and improve myself so that I can be able to facilitate their learning well and at the same time , deliver quality patient care . And now that I am a formally a clinical teacher, I can say that I have gained more knowledge through years of my experience. The foremost attribute that i have as a clinical teacher is my love for teaching. They say that Teaching is love in its purest form. We need to love what we do so that that we can bring learning to our learners . And because of this, I make sure to improve myself to be an effective teacher by educating myself how to be one. One reason for me enrolling at NTTC. I think the area that i want to improve more as a clinical instructor is on how to evaluate students/residents fairly and objectively  and to provide them with timely and constructive feedback . I think excellent clinical teaching transcends ordinary teaching by inspiring our students , supporting them ,and make them  actively involve in the learning process.

I agree with you doc tet. giving a constructive feedback is something that we really need to practice more. This can either make or break our students. The feedback that we give may motivate them to push some more or will stop them to better themselves. That's why it's important that we are mindful with the words that comes out of our mouth.

Hello Doc Tet! Like you, I love teaching and it was even a study habit of mine. I learn best when I am able to teach it to my classmates. I can confidently say that I know what I am doing when I can explain it or do it in a way that even someone w/ no medical background can understand.

With the changing times and personalities of our students, providing constructive feedback has always been a challenge. "How do I make it understandable? How can I say it without traumatizing them? What is the proper logical sequence to what I want to say?" those are the questions that plague me before and after I give feedback xD

Hello Doc,

I love it when you mentioned that one of your attributes is your love for teaching. This is actually the reason why I enrolled at NTTC too and maybe the desire to improve the situation of clinical teaching or training in the area where I am currently working. I believe that by being a good example and by showing the best practices, I would not only save a lot of patients from incompetent care but I can contribute to the overall condition of the workplace. Thank you for being the teacher this system badly needs. I believe that the very first step to become a good clinical teacher is to love teaching. Once you have this, everything will come naturally.
