One of the interesting concepts I learned today from one of the supplementary videos was about the natural healing of wounds. When the body is injured (aka the skin gets cut through), the wound will bleed, causing blood to escape from the body. Since this is an undesirable outcome, the body responds through blood clotting, wherein a clot forms over the injury. In the hours and days after the injury, the area of injury may experience swelling due to the body triggering the immune system to help fight back against any microbes or foreign bodies that entered the body while the wound was still open. The wound will then slowly start to heal, first by scabbing, scarring, then eventual build up of new skin (however, for the skin to truly be as strong as before, it may take a very, very long time).

In daily life, people (including me) regularly get injuries, mostly small, but other times large or more serious. I think that knowing how the body heals wounds can help you to maintain and not disrupt the healing process, as well as know when a wound may or may not need further medical treatment (after all, sometimes natural healing can only get you so far!).
