In relation to protein synthesis, gene expression is a process of synthesizing proteins using the gene’s DNA. The gene’s DNA contains information that is used as a template for the creation of proteins. Gene expression involves two processes, which are transcription and translation. During transcription, a single strand in the DNA is used as a template for creating a complementary RNA strand, which is similar to the other strand. Afterward, translation occurs wherein the RNA strand attaches itself to a ribosome, which is the site of translation of the information contained in RNA. In the ribosome, amino acids sequence is translated from the information in the RNA, and when this process continues, a new protein molecule is synthesized.
