What is Google Workspace?
Google Workspace, formerly known as G Suite, is a collection of cloud computing, productivity and collaboration tools, software and products developed and marketed by Google. It was first launched in 2006 as Google Apps for Your Domain and rebranded as G Suite in 2016 (Wikipedia).
Eligible academic institutions enjoy Google Workspace free of charge. The University of the Philippines has partnered with Google under the G Suite for Education program for the former's use of Google applications that fall under Google Workspace.
Using Google Workspace is advantageous to you because:
- You can work anywhere. You just need a computer and Internet connection to make this possible.
- You don't worry about storage. Storage limit is almost 'unlimited'.
- Files may be synced between your computer and Google.
- It is fast to work using Google Workspace.
- You may work and learn along with other people in real time, at the same time.
What is just troubling us is that we are locked in to Google. Dependence on Google means that we cannot work without using its applications, or when Google service becomes unavailable at least for some time. The solution of this is thinking of alternative ways of doing your work while Google is down for whatever reason.
