I think often see many senior researchers join research works even if the resident or trainee do 95% of the work and five extra senior researchers in the author line just for seniority and also to help them in their academic promotion. As a junior or trainee, it is very awkward to complain or point this out. However, I think the university does not have a very good system in place to prevent this from happening.
