One of my difficult learning situations in the clinical area, was during my early or starting year as clinical instructor, having a large number of students to handle during a rotation is a challenging situation by itself, having to guide each of the students to have a meaningful and productive exposure is also another challenge. The learning process becomes difficult when your trust to a certain learner is eroded by a single act of non-compliance to an instruction or hiding non-conforming actions. I had one instance that a learner has to rewrite the whole patient kardex because it got soaked in water while he was copying some data using the nurse station medication table that was wet with water, and me as the responsible person of his action was the last to know. I approached the student and reminded him of the consequences of his action but I was also trying to avoid creating fear or an unhealthy learning relationship he is a son of a co-faculty. Upon discussing with the student I also talked to the parent who was also my co-faculty and provide some suggestions on how to prevent this issue become more of a concern.

Having an erring student whose parent is your co-faculty must be difficult. What I learned from this shared story of yours is the importance of communication not only with the student but the parent as well who is your co-faculty.
