This happened in the OR, handling 3rd year students clinical rotation in the OR, before hand students were given lectures and return demonstration before their actual exposure. The students is assigned to be the scrub nurse, after scrubbing done with gowning and gloving, she will assist the staff scrub nurse in handling instruments. The problem is the students is having difficulty in manipulating clamping/closing the instruments. I'm at the back of the students, I already raising my voice while holding the gown at her back which I know is not correct, however, the situation calls for it and I can't do anything at the moment, the staff and doctor already teach the students how to manipulate the instruments still the student can't do it. I can see the hands of the students is shaking already.
After the operation, I spoke with the concern students one on one and asks what is the problem, the students said that she is rattled and nervous. I told the students she need to overcome it and luckily the surgeon is welcoming and understanding what if the surgeon is very strict. I also gave the students the instruments to practice again and again until the students can manipulate the instruments confidently.
