What was your takeaway from the video?
Communication is important in building nursing skills in clinical education. It is a foundational aspect in developing a competent, safe, and compassionate nurse. Effective communication enhances learning and understanding by providing clear objectives and expectations during the clinical duties. It also sets the tone of the clinical duty and establish trust between the student and the clinical instructor. Communication creates a positive and supportive learning environment that promotes critical thinking and provides timely and constructive feedback.
What challenges did you encounter when giving feedback to other people?
The following are the challenges that can be encountered in giving feedback to other people, such as
- Emotional stability of the student
- Approach on how to deliver the feedback
- Choice of words in delivering the feedback
- And the alignment of the feedback based on the given task
How did you overcome these challenges?
These challenges can be overcome through a compassionate and organized feedback mechanism. A compassionate approach in providing feedback starts on a positive note—recognizing student effort, then addressing the area for improvement and encouraging students to provide suggestions/options. Using appropriate words and 1-on-1 coaching are some effective feedback strategy.
