Balancing Act: Designations

Balancing Act: Designations

Months after getting hired in a State University as a Clinical Educator, I was designated as the RLE Coordinator and Program Head of the BSN program. Looking back during the hiring process, I could vividly remember that I undoubtedly said "Yes, I'm Ready." with the pressures and challenges that may come along the way as I entered my new role in the Academe. And so, today, I carry different roles.

As Educators, we take on multiple roles beyond teaching. Although these designations can be fulfilling, these additional roles requires more demand of our time. Sometimes, if not, most of the time, the demands become too overwhelming that you tend to compromise your core role as Educator.

I've had these struggles for some time, especially now, that I am also studying MNE. Sometimes, I am at the brink of stepping down from the designations but like any other person who's driven by challenges, I still continue to accept what is expected of me with these designations. The challenges are real, but the opportunity to grow carries much the same weight.

Every day, I find new challenges, thus, every day I find myself growing and learning, and improving. It's a constant balance between all the responsibilities I have to deliver and is expected of me...that our additional roles must enhance, not overshadow our primary mission as Educators.

Hello Mam Diana
Thank you for sharing your honest and inspiring reflection. Your journey is a powerful reminder of the real demands and sacrifices that come with leadership roles in the academe. Balancing multiple responsibilities while staying true to the core mission of teaching is never easy, especially while pursuing further studies. But your continued commitment, despite the challenges, reflects the heart of what it means to be an educator, resilient, purpose-driven, and growth-oriented. Indeed, our additional roles should strengthen, not overshadow, our mission to educate and inspire.
