Bridging the Gap

Bridging the Gap

As I transition from being a nurse clinician to a nurse educator, my biggest concern about being assigned in the clinical area is my limited teaching experience, especially during my first year in this role. While I possess clinical expertise, my formal training in teaching strategies, curriculum development, and student assessment is quite minimal. This gap significantly affects my effectiveness as an instructor. As a novice nurse educator and clinical preceptor, I find it challenging to provide constructive feedback and processing the learning of the student in the clinical area. I often overlook critical aspects that contribute to student learning.

However, I am aware that I have much to learn and improve upon to keep my students engaged and enhance the quality of their learning experiences in the clinical environment. I am grateful for my enrollment in the Master of Nursing Education (MNE) program at the University of the Philippines, as it addresses the teaching experience gap many new nurse educators, like myself, encounter.

I share the same struggle, Sir. I used to decline offers from the Dean to teach a certain subject because I felt I have little knowledge about the course. However, I realized that continuous is the key to overcoming this fear.
Cheers to everyone of us who took the challenge of lifelong learning!!!
