I have not personally witnessed a colleague committing the research misconducts of fabrication nor falsification. However, I have heard from a friend that there was a young graduate student that she had observed whom committed the offense. In one of the graduate laboratory activities, the MS students have been observed to modify the absorbances of the calibration curve to get a linearity almost equal to 1. My colleague then reported this incident to the faculty-in-charge to finalize the proper sanctions for these actions. With this, I can say that this simple changes in the data really do happen even in small activities. Thus, should be addressed properly to avoid future conflicts.
