There was a resident who was invited to present his/her research to a conference.  Initially, the consultants were congratulating him/her until one consultant did his/her due diligence and determined that the conference was predatory.  This saved our resident from paying fees and participating in the predatory conference.

I am a practicing IM gastroenterologist and have been invited many times, seemingly at random, to speak in Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and the Czech republic to speak on topics such as nursing, anti-microbial stewardship, and microbiology. It is good that even though I had not yet been educated on predatory journals, a part of me knew it was very fishy and thus did not waste my time and money.
