Insertion: patella through the quadriceps tendon, patellar ligament through the tibial tuberosity. Action: Bend the leg at the knee. Finding the area: With your palm facing the client's leg while standing by their side, find the greater trochanter. Place your hand on the lateral thigh in a distal motion. Examine the vastus lateralis oblique fibers anteriorly and posteriorly to the iliotibial band.

Insertion: patella via the tendon of the quadriceps and the patellar ligament via the tuberosity of the tibia. Action: Move the lower leg forward by extending the knee joint. How to find them: The patient should be seated comfortably so that the entire arm, from the shoulder to the elbow, is visible. Trace an imaginary inverted triangle beneath the shoulder by palpating the acromion, or outer edge of the scapula. The injection site should be at the center of the triangle, three to five centimeters below the acromion.
