  • Throwing a Baseball Overhead
    • Deltoid:
      • Action: Abducts, flexes, and medially rotates the humerus (shoulder joint).
      • Innervation: Axillary nerve (C5, C6)
    • Rotator cuff muscles (supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, subscapularis):
      • Action: Provide stability and strength to the shoulder joint.
      • Innervation: Supraspinatus (suprascapular nerve), infraspinatus and teres minor (axillary nerve), subscapularis (anterior circumflex nerve)
  • Kicking a Ball
    • Quadriceps femoris (rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus intermedius):
      • Action: Extends the knee.
      • Innervation: Femoral nerve (L2-L4)
    • Iliopsoas:
      • Action: Flexes the hip.
      • Innervation: Iliohypogastric nerve (L1), ilioinguinal nerve (L1)
  • Doing Sit-Ups
    • Rectus abdominis:
      • Action: Flexes the trunk.
      • Innervation: Thoracic nerves (T6-T12)
    • External oblique:
      • Action: Flexes, rotates, and laterally bends the trunk.
      • Innervation: Thoracic nerves (T6-T12), lumbar nerves (L1-L5)
  • Breathing
    • Diaphragm:
      • Action: Contracts to flatten the dome, expanding the thoracic cavity during inhalation. Relaxes during exhalation.
      • Innervation: Phrenic nerve (C3, C4, C5)
    • Intercostal muscles:
      • Action: Assist in expanding and contracting the thoracic cavity during breathing.
      • Innervation: Intercostal nerves (T1-T12)
