- Sites of Injection: anterolateral thigh
- Targeted Muscle: Vastus Lateralis
- Origin: greater trochanter and lateral lip of linea aspera of the femur
- Insertion: patella via the quadriceps tendon, and tibial tuberosity via the patellar ligament
- Action: extends the leg at the knee joint
- Locating the Vastus Lateralis
- Gently place the infant on the supine position with their legs slightly bent. Locate the middle third of the thigh.
2. Flu Vaccine for 65-year-old grandfather
- Site of Injection: Deltoid Muscle
- Origin: lateral third of the clavicle, acromion, and spine of the scapula
- Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
- Action: abduction of the arm; anterior fibers flex and medially rotate the arm; posterior fibers extend and laterally rotate the arm
- Locating the Deltoid
- Have the patient relax their arm. Locate the bony prominence (acromion process) on top of the shoulder. Place two or three finger widths below the acromion process. The injection site is the middle of the triangle formed by the acromion process (base) and the deltoid tuberosity (apex).
