1. PCV, Penta, and Oral Polio Vaccine
Sites of Injection: anterolateral thigh
Targeted Muscle: vastus lateralis muscle
Origin: proximal femur, origin points include the intertrochanteric line, greater trochanter, lateral aspect of the linea aspera
Insertion: quadriceps tendon to base of patella and onto the tibial tuberosity
Action: extension of the knee joint
Locating: The top and bottom borders of the vastus lateralis muscle can be found a hand with below the groin and a hand above the knee, respectively. The side borders are from the mid anterior thigh to the mid lateral thigh. The area located is the ideal site for injection.
2. Intramuscular injection
Sites of Injection: upper, outer arm muscle
Targeted muscle: deltoid muscle
Origin: the acromion, scapular spine, and lateral third of clavicle
Insertion: deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
Action: arm abduction, flexion and extension
Locating: Middle part of the deltoid muscle from the side view. 2.5-5 cm or 1-2 inches below the acromion.
