- Origin: Greater trochanter and the lateral lip of the Linea aspera of the femur and joins the quadriceps
- Insertion: Into the tibial tuberosity via the patella ligament
- Action: Extension of the knee joint, if sitting down, the vastus lateralis can extend the lower leg upward forming an extension movement

- Origin: In the clavicle and the sternum
- Insertion: Humerus
- Action: Raise the shoulder, abducting the arm
