  • Orbicularis oris

    • Action: Closes and protrudes lips, as in kissing; compresses lips against teeth; and shapes lips during speech.

  • Platysma

    • Action: Draws outer part of lower lip inferiorly and posteriorly as in pouting; depresses mandible.

  • Depressor anguli oris

    • Action: Draws angle of mouth laterally and inferiorly, as in opening mouth

  • Orbicularis oculi

    • Action: Closes eye

  • Occipito frontalis

    • Action: Draws scalp anteriorly, raises eyebrows, and wrinkles skin of forehead horizontally as in look of surprise

  • Mechanism of his muscle weakness

    • Bell’s palsy, also known as facial paralysis, is a type of unilateral paralysis of the facial expression muscles, as a result of disease to the facial (VII) nerve. It can be caused by the inflammation of the facial nerve due to an ear infection, ear surgery (damaging the facial nerve) or infection from the herpes simplex virus. The facial paralysis causes a side of the fact to droop, mimicking the symptoms of a stroke.

    • Dry eye and mouth

    • Pain around jaw or behind ear on the affected side

    • Increased sensitivity to sound on the affected side
