Am I a good clinical teacher? What attributes do I possess that make one? What do I still need to develop?
Am I good clinical teacher?
I think the answer depends on the feedback you get from your students and on the output of your students on the subject/course you are teaching. Good, if you are well liked by your students and your students could approach you easily. Good, if your students are able to effectively and efficiently manage your patients. Good if your students appreciate and demonstrate the same values and behavior you promote. Good, if you are able to inspire them to pursue the course and strive to learn more about it. In the span of more than 25 years as a teacher, I have had my fair share of being a good and not a good teacher.
Having said these, the attributes of a good teacher are: content expertise, good communication and people skills, and more importantly, empathy and consistency.
As a teacher, I think I have to continually develop all these in order to be a good clinical teacher.
