I cannot answer if a good clinical teacher, since I haven’t been teaching yet in a formal setting. However this question made me reflect deeply on the roles of a clinical teacher.
Being a good clinical teacher requires a combination of complex roles all aiming to produce well-prepared students. I should be clinically competent with a strong grasp of the subject matter and clinical skills relevant to my field, as students look up to us as role models. I should also be able to convey complex medical concepts in a clear and understandable manner which is vital for promoting a positive learning environment. As we often hear, “mahirap na nga, lalo pa pinapahirap”. Additionally, be able to understand the challenges that learners may face and be patient with their progress. Its not like, “dapat alam nyo na to pag pasok nyo”. We were once students ourselves, and I appreciate the guidance and patience that my teachers showed me. I should also be more approachable to students for them to feel comfortable seeking guidance.
I recognize the attributes that I need to develop more. I should stay updated with the latest advancements and integrate innovative teaching techniques to engage students and promote active learning experiences. I should also be able to balance my clinical responsibilities with teaching, which is quite challenging. I know that developing effective time management skills can help me fulfill both roles effectively.
