1. Platysma
- Origin: fascia over deltoid and pectoralis major muscles
- Insertion: base of mandible; skin of lower face (cheek and lower lip); angle of mouth
- Action: depresses mandible, draws outer part of lower lip inferiorly and posteriorly as in pouting
2. Mentalis
- Origin: body of mandible
- Insertion: skin of chin
- Action: protrudes and elevates lower lip allowing pouting face
3. Orbicularis oris
- Origin: muscle fibers surrounding opening of mouth
- Insertion: skin at corner of mouth
- Action: purses lips, puckers lip edges, closes and protrudes lips
4. Corrugator supercilii
- Origin: medial end of superficial arch of frontal bone, cranially to the root of the nose
- Insertion: skin above middle part of the eyebrow
- Action: pulls skin of eyebrow medially and downward, also produces vertical wrinkles in forehead
5. Orbicularis oculi
- Origin: medial wall of orbit
- Insertion: circular path around orbit
- Action: closes eye
6. Occipitofrontalis
- Origin: epicranial aponeurosis
- Insertion: skin superior to supraorbital margin
- Action: draws scalp anteriorly, wrinkles skin of forehead horizontally, raises eyebrows
