All the three types of assessments are valuable for the students. But if I had to choose one as most valuable, it would be assessment for learning. Assessment for learning is crucial because each learner is unique, and we cannot expect all students to learn everything the way we want them to learn during the learning process. Making mistakes is part of the learning process, and this is where descriptive feedback would be most useful. This will assist students’ learning and track their progress. If students perform well in the assessment for learning, they will find it easier to achieve the assessment of learning. Eventually, the learner will develop metacognition, or the ability to recognize what one knows and does not know, and will set personal goals for progress and improvement.
I agree with descriptive feedback as one of the valuable tools for assessment rather than giving a numeric grade alone because learning is an unending process. It doesn't mean to say that if you got a perfect grade of 100%, learning will stop. DEscriptive feedback will direct the student for further improvement or enhancement of the learning process.Â
