Undoubtedly, an effective teacher is one vital determinant of student’s achievement and performance. And careful consideration of the student’s performance (taken collectively with the rest of the class) in evaluating the teacher is necessary, but it should not be the sole basis. Evaluating the test scores or student achievement is not sufficiently reliable and valid indicator of teacher effectiveness. Student’s achievement is multifactorial, students learn inside and outside of a class and resources may not be the same for everyone. Some just perform well in examinations and some may not, regardless of how the lesson was taught and delivered. With this said, I am for including it as part of, but not as an entirely the source of the evaluation, we should refrain from reliance exclusively on test scores, class performance etc., in evaluating the teachers.

Re: Student Achievement to measure Teacher Effectiveness

Agree on this, aside from pedagogical knowledge and skills, teacher effectiveness should consist of various components like classroom management, peer collaboration, work ethics and professionalism. in the same context, students achievement is not solely based in teacher's effectiveness. There can be other issues such as learning environment, personal or family issues, mental health issues that can affect student's performance independent of teacher's effectiveness.
