- Other examples of disturbances in the internal environment that can act as a stimulus to a feedback mechanism would be diabetes and increase in normal body temperature. Diabetes is a disease caused by a malfunctioning feedback loop involving the hormone insulin. Because of the broken feedback loop, it is difficult or impossible for the body to reduce high blood sugar levels to a healthy level. High body temperature, on the other hand, will be detected by sensors—primarily nerve cells with endings in your skin and brain—and relayed to a temperature-regulatory control center in your brain. The control center will process the information and activate effectors, such as the sweat glands, whose job is to oppose the stimulus by lowering the body temperature.
