1. The sites of injection for the PCV should be in the right thigh while the Penta should be in the left thigh. The targeted muscle for the injection is the Vastus lateralis muscle in the anterolateral thigh.
- Origin: Greater trochanter and linea aspera of femur
- Insertion : Patella via quadriceps tendon and then tuberosity via patellar ligament
- Action: Extend leg at knee joints
- How to locate: The vastus lateralis is just on the anterolateral thigh, locate first the greater trochanter which can be found by a hand width below the groin area (upper border)and a hand above the knee area(lower border).
2. The preferred site for IM injection for this case is the deltoid muscle which is at the shoulders.
- Origin: Acromion
- Insertion: Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
- Action: Abduct arm at shoulder joint
- How to locate: Look for the knobbly top of the arm or the acromion process. Look for the top border of an inverted triangle which is two fingers width down from acromion process.
