You do not consume alcoholic beverages, but your friend does, and he consumes these drinks regularly and in large amounts, If we could examine your liver cells and compare with your friend, would we see a difference in smooth ER and peroxisomes?

Alcohol abuse can cause the destruction of your liver cells. Since the liver catabolizes most of the alcohol that is ingested, the resulting substances may overwhelm and damage the liver cells. More so, since the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and peroxisomes both deal with the detoxifying harmful substances like those that result from alcohol, the smooth ER and peroxisomes may be noticeably more worn out when compared to a person who does not consume alcoholic beverages. As such, this may lead to an inadequate performance in the breaking down of alcoholic substances and may cause illnesses like liver fibrosis.
