1. Discuss the basic life processes and your own example for each.

  1. Metabolism - refers to the chemical processes that take place in the body (ex. the breakdown of glycogen to glucose)

  2. Responsiveness - one’s ability to respond to changes (ex. touching something hot, our bodies respond to this by automatically pulling away)

  3. Movement - refers to the motion of our body (ex. blinking)

  4. Growth - refers to the increase in body size and the number of cells (ex. Hair cells start to gather at the base of a hair follicle to form hair)

  5. Differentiation - refers to the development of a cell from an unspecialized to a specialized state (ex. ovum developing into an embryo, into a fetus up to an adult)

  6. Reproduction - refers to the formation of new cells or the production of an individual (ex. with the help of mitosis, healing from an injury is possible since it is able to generate cells that are identical to each other and replace the damaged tissues)
