Discuss the basic life processes and your own example for each.

  1. Metabolism - describes all the chemical reactions that take place within the body. One example is burning fat and calories when exercising.

  2. Responsiveness - is the capability of the body to sense and respond to stimuli which could be either external or internal, for instance, your hand’s reflex action when touching a hot object (sensing) is to instantaneously snatch your hand away (response).

  3. Movement - this refers to any motion of the body from the simplest to the most complex part, such as how the head nods and how the muscles of the esophagus moves when we eat.

  4. Growth - this happens when the body enlarges, like the muscle growth when exercising or when aging.

  5. Differentiation - is the alteration of a cell’s job from being unspecialized to having a particular function. Example is when a single-celled zygote developed into a multicellular embryo.

  6. Reproduction - this either refers to the multiplication of cells or the production of another individual, just like how a mother conceives and gives birth to a child.
