Choose one concept in our lesson today, give a brief explanation about the concept and cite how this learning can be applied in your daily life.
The wound healing process is the concept that left an impression on me. This process starts as soon as the skin or the body detects a break or an injury; it may be a cut, a lesion, or a stab wound. First things first, you need to add compression to the injured area to prevent losing too much blood. The process starts when platelets from the blood form together to produce a clot. Platelets adhere as soon as they detect that there is a breakage in the blood vessel. Next is when the injured area becomes inflamed caused by the white blood cells, nutrients, and enzymes which helps the healing faster. This process removes the bacteria away from the cut. After the inflammation, the wound will start producing new tissue that is made up of collagen and extracellular matrix in exchange for the broken one. Pink and red colors indicate that the wound is healthy and healing perfectly. Lastly, the remodeling phase is when the cells that are used in the stages of healing are not required anymore, it is programmed for cell death. During maturation, collagen reduces the thickness of the wound and makes it stronger. This concept can be applied not only in the medical field but also in any emergencies that can happen in our daily lives. We cannot avoid having injuries that is why it is important to know that the body has its own healing process, and we should not interfere with it, rather, let it heal and clean it. At some point in our lives, we used to peal the abrasions we have which can slow the healing process.
