Choose one concept in our lesson today, give a brief explanation about the concept and cite how this learning can be applied in your daily life.
- The concept I want to focus on in this activity is all about the skin. Honestly, I don’t know why people give such a big deal about physical appearances when in fact, I’m sure they have felt similar situations like this. Discrimination about skin color has been prevalent over years, and we are fighting against it for a long time now. But why is it still a big deal in the present times? This just shows that the sharing of information through social media, joining protests, fighting back against trolls, etc., is not enough. We should also apply it in real life. Today’s lesson showed me that skin is not just skin. This knowledge I acquired for today’s lesson made me reflect on my skin more, which I mostly took advantage of. It is the largest organ of the human body, our first defense, and the one regulating our temperature. We should stop perceiving skin as an indicator of how we will treat other people. It is there for a purpose, it serves the same purpose to everyone, and it will always remain that way. There is still more to what we see. In short, we should also value someone’s skin as how we value ours.
