Discuss the basic life processes and your own example for each.

  1. METABOLISM - chemical reactions in the body's cells that change food into energy (e.g. glucose to pyruvate by cellular respiration)
  2. RESPONSIVENESS - ability of an organism to adjust to changes in its internal and external environments (e.g. moving hand away when held ice afer a bearable time)
  3. MOVEMENT - includes motion of the whole body, individual organs, single cells, and even tiny structures inside cells (e.g. movement of diaphragm with every breath)
  4. GROWTH - increase in body size (e.g. weight gain)
  5. DEVELOPMENT - all of the changes the body goes through in life (e.g. development process from neonatal to adulthood)
  6. REPRODUCTION - formation of a new organism from parent organisms (e.g. birth of a baby)
