Comparing the quantity of my smooth ER to my alcoholic friend, my alcoholic friend will have a higher number of smooth ER in their liver cells. This is because smooth ER is used to detoxify the alcohol. As a result, as he or she keeps drinking alcohol, he or she will have a higher number of smooth ER in order to compensate for the amount of alcohol that is entering his or her body. Moreover, my friend would also have a higher number of peroxisomes. This is because peroxisomes oxidize alcohol. As a result, as the alcohol content in the blood increases, the quantity of peroxisomes increases as well.
