Give other examples of disturbances in the internal environment that can act as a stimulus to a feedback mechanism.
High body temperature is an example of a stimulus that can trigger a negative feedback mechanism. The body responds to its increased temperature by dilating the blood vessels in the skin, activating sweat glands, and breathing deeper through the mouth in order to reduce body heat.
On the other hand, blood clotting is an example of a stimulus that can cause a positive feedback loop. Whenever a person has a wound, the body responds by releasing substances from the injured blood vessel to make the blood clot. Platelets would then start to attach to the injured area. As more and more platelets are attracted to the injured site, the blood clot would eventually be large enough to stop the blood loss.
