You do not consume alcoholic beverages, but your friend does, and he consumes these drinks regularly and in large amounts. If we could examine your liver cells and compare with your friend, would we see a difference in smooth ER and peroxisomes?

The difference of an alcoholic person and a normal person in terms of their smooth endoplasmic reticulum will commonly be the quantity of smooth ER and peroxisomes that an alcoholic person will have. The smooth ER as a stress response of an individual will be affected by too much alcohol consumption. When observed or compared, the number of smooth ER and peroxisomes of an alcoholic person significantly increases. This difference may eventually lead to much serious diseases in liver, heart, and brain.
