1. Which directional terms can be used to specific the relationships between;

a) elbow and shoulder

    • The elbow is DISTAL to the shoulder.

b) left and right shoulders

    • The left shoulder is  CONTRALATERAL to the right shoulder.

c) sternum and the humerus

    • The sternum is MEDIAL to the humerus.

d) heart and the diaphragm

    • The heart is SUPERIOR to the diaphragm.

e) knees and tibia

    • The knees are PROXIMAL to the tibia.

f) liver and gallbladders

    • The liver is SUPERIOR to the gallbladders.

g) spleen and liver

    • The spleen and liver are CONTRALATERAL to each other.

h) kidneys and small intestines

    • The kidneys are POSTERIOR to the small intestines. 

i) 3rd and 5th digits

    • The 3rd and 5th digits in our hands are LATERALS to each other. 

j) sternum and thymus glands

    • The sternum is ANTERIOR to the thymus glands.
