Statistics says it all: young Filipino women who are not even maturely developed for childbearing are already getting pregnant. Sexuality education must be implemented among adolescents and adults. With this being part of the Phillipine education curriculum, teenagers will be equipped with knowledge on safe sex. This will eventually lead to the prevention of both unwanted pregnancies and the spreading of STDs. It will also advocate for the practice of safe sex and can help emphasize on the great value of consent. However, since our country has a lot of traditional and close-minded religious people, we still have big leaps to overcome in terms of sexual education since many people disagree with its implementation. Personally, I had classes back when I was in eighth grade regarding sex. Coming from a catholic school run by a congregation of nuns, I can say that sexual education that was taught to us was insufficient because topics discussed were merely the basic sex organs and the reproductive system. It did not entail lessons about use of contraceptives, value of consent, consequences of early pregnancy, and the importance of practicing safe sex.
