Good nutrition is very essential to everyone’s health and wellbeing. Good nutrition means that the individual is receiving an adequate amount with the appropriate kind and type of food. It also means that the individual’s needs are satisfied in order to support his growth and development.

Good nutrition is very important for the growth and development of an individual because it helps in the different body processes of enhancing our body structures such as building our muscles, making our bones and teeth stronger, and improving the functionality of the different organs of the body. It also helps maintain our weight according to what is appropriate for our age and height. Lastly, it aids in the prevention of different diseases (i.e., chronic, non-communicable diseases) and in strengthening our immune system.

For the younger individuals, neonates, infants, and toddlers, it is very important that they receive good nutrition. This is because their body still does not have the capacity to fight off diseases because it is still developing and adjusting. Providing them with nutrition will support the development of antibodies that will protect the individuals from the diseases and at the same time strengthen their immune system. Moreover, providing them with good nutrition will help their body develop properly and prevent them from being malnourished (either overnourished or undernourished), which also in the long run will help them prevent acquiring different non-communicable diseases. Once the child is able to fight off diseases, it means that his or her own body will grow and develop properly. Thus, to sum it all up, the statement “good nutrition is a foundation of a child’s survival, growth and development” is indeed true and correct.
