What do you think are the reasons of high unmet need of FP in the Philippines?
Personally, I believe that the use contraceptives is not being normalized. Some even laugh or discriminate people buying condoms in store. With this many are afraid to try buying them. Other people will always think they are being seen as sex addict when seen by other people buying and/or holding condoms.
In relation to family planning in general, many are also not seeing its importance. To be able to understand the reason of Filipinos on why they are having a lot of children, I browsed a discussion forum in Quora. Some people said that poverty is pushing other people to have sex frequently because of the good feeling it gives. Next, other people actually plans huge family because they consider their children as investment, or want to leave a huge family that can help each other after passing away.
Lastly, I would say that the adults avoiding to open the discussion of sex education for adolescents is another factor of contributing to the unmet needs of FP. Adults not discussing these appropriately can cause the youth spark their curiosity into actions. Guidance on consequences should be thoroughly discussed to them.

What are ways you can suggest to increase the practice of FP in the country? Give least 1-2 suggestions.
I suggest that as nurses, we include family planning education in our teaching plans. This should include ways on how to discuss or introduce these matters to the youth according to what studies say. In addition, I would like to also suggest that there should be extensive education of the FP services that every health center offers. Given that we are facing a lot of health problems, we tend to leave the programs for FP behind. During my 3 days exposure in community as a volunteer vaccinator, only 1 woman went to the rural health unit asking for contraceptives.
