Challenges experienced in implementing and managing curriculum

One of the challenges that are often encounter during the  implementation and management of our curriculum in the internship program  is the availability and variety of the patients being handled/managed by the intern. Internship program mostly follow the experiential learning theory wherein they get to experience how to handle actual patients and learn from them. Since the patient duration/stay at the hospital are very spontaneous, there is no guarantee that all interns will get to experience all the types of conditions being referred to occupational therapy. Some students are lucky during their period of rotation as they get the chance to experience a variety of cases, while some are unfortunate that they only experience 1-2 varieties of cases. The solution that we used to address this is by doing patient simulation and/or role-playing. But, even if this problem can be solved through simulated patients and role-playing, it is still best to experience the patient in the actual context.
