Video viewing tips

Do you speed up a video while watching it? Some of my students have told me they do this so the video gets finished faster. I wonder if that's because the teacher is speaking too slowly. I know that speaking slowly (like I was delivering the news) was something I had to get over when I was new to making teaching videos.

What other tips on watching videos can you share?

Good Day po Ma'am,
Actually I learned my lesson when I tried to speed up the videos of one module of my first year med courses. I thought that I will be efficient with that move but at the end I had a low grade on my exam for those topics I speed up. I thought that the more knowledge I can have in a small amount of time , the more I can read other resources and have time for rest. But what really happens is that knowledge will not last for a long time and you would be missing out important details along the way. That is why, my tip for my colleagues is to take things step-by-step especially not speeding up videos and really slowly chewing all those details and concepts.

At the end, we are not just studying to pass the exam but to be the best and competent doctors we can be. And to be that doctor, we must stock all the knowledge that we can get in our long term memories.

Hello Joshua! I facilitate video production workshops for the faculty. One of the things I tell them is that if students speed up their lecture videos, perhaps they're talking too slowly? In my experience when I was still new to making videos, I spoke too carefully and slowly - enunciating the words to make sure they were clearly understood. However as time went by, I got back to the usual conversation pace. One advantage I do see is being able to rewind if you missed something.
