Course description: An overview of intellectual and non-intellectual parameters used for selection of students in the health sciences. Also an in-depth study of these parameters and their adaptation to local needs. The issue of combining the data for measurement of these parameters to make selection decisions will be addressed.

Course Objectives: Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Explain the rationale of selecting the most qualified students in health sciences courses from undergraduate to post-graduate programs,
2. Distinguish the common cognitive and non-cognitive criteria used in selecting students and/or trainees in health sciences courses,
3. Critique existing student selection criteria being used in health sciences schools, and
4. Given a particular institutional vision and thrust, determine the appropriate criteria for selecting students and/or trainees.
