      Concepts, research and development in teacher evaluation in the health professions with emphasis on methods of evaluation feedback for improvement of instruction.

      Credit: 2 units

      Aim of the Course: 

      At the end of the course the students should have developed a Faculty Assessment program for their respective institutions.

      1. Effectively present a teacher evaluation plan in written and oral form
      2. Appreciate the contributions of different teacher evaluation paradigms in addressing cultural and ethical issues in health professions education
      3. Identify significant teacher roles and professional activities that must be evaluated
      4. Provide critical inputs in the development of a teacher evaluation plan
      5.  Formulate a technically sound teacher evaluation plan
      6. Implement a teacher evaluation plan
      7. Present the results of a teacher evaluation project to relevant stakeholders

    • For our September  (TBA) session, we will be doing a roundtable discussion on the following areas:

      1. The health professions education teacher 
        • Teacher responsibilities and evaluating them

      2. Teacher Evaluation in the Organizational context.

      The ROUNTABLE Mechanics:

      1. This RT will actually be composed of at least two FGDs.
      2. For each FGD, there will be an FGD facilitator and Documenter.
      3. Assigned FGD facilitators will do the following:
        • Prepare his/her FGD guide or interview guide for the assigned theme with his/her documenter partner.
        • Conduct the actual FGD with members of an expert panel (participating members of the class)
        • Review materials on topics related to the assigned FGD
      4. Assigned FGD documenter will ensure that the FGD is properly document. He or she will also have to prepare, together with his/her FGD facilitator, a comprehensive report of the FGD in the next meeting.
      5. Remaining members of the class will act as members of the expert panel for the FGD theme. Hence, are required to demonstrate his or her expertise on the topic (the reason why he/she was precisely selected as member of the expert panel). How do you that?
        • Read materials related to the theme.

        • Show that you are worth the invitation to be a member of the 'expert panel.'

    Topic 2: Evaluation Matrix for Teacher Evaluation

      I am not sure if your institution have an existing teacher evaluation program that you can use as basis for your teacher evaluation. For your paper, however, let us just assume that your institution does not have a formal or implied one, so you will be working from scratch and you can use some of the key points generated during your FGDs and those raised by Braskamp, to start your thinking and writing process. To help you plan, one useful tool is the Evaluation Matrix or Evaluation Plan Worksheet. I suggest that you do a quick review of Part Three, Chapter 14 (pages 340 -377 and 'evaluation matrix is in page 355-357) of Worthen and Sander's Textbook on Educational Evaluation, since I know this is a standard tool you learned how to use in HP 231.

      In today's session, we will have a workshop on preparing and filling up the evaluation matrix for your proposed teacher evaluation. As emphasized above, the evaluation matrix is one of the best way to identify or brainstorm on the key components of your  institutional teacher evaluation plan, before even writing the formal comprehensive teacher evaluation plan.

      You will work individually to initially fill-up the first three columns of the matrix/worksheet and you will have 30 minutes for this task. You will present your matrix after 30 minutes. Please make sure you finish in 30 minutes so that we will have ample time for discussion during the plenary session.

  • Presenting Evidence of Teaching Effectiveness

    • After collecting your teacher evaluation, the next step is course running your data analysis. Below are some eBooks that I developed to help you in doing your data analysis task. Your data analysis is an important component of your final teacher evaluation report. It is also important that your data analysis is complemented by easy to understand figures and graphics. Guidelines on how to present data in your report is also available below for your use.

  • Teacher Evaluation Protocol: Pre Testing

      You have three weeks to conduct your pre-testing and preparation of draft evaluation report. Be prepared to present your findings and discussion on December 7 and 14. We will follow the report guidelines we used in HP 231 | Educational Evaluation. 

      During this period, you can consult your faculty in charge for additional guidance (if needed) through our google workspace.
