Characteristics of hazards.     The fourth question in the inclusion criteria above mentions specific components or characteristics to describe natural hazards in order to understand them better.  These include magnitude or intensity, speed of onset, duration, and the area they cover (spatial scale).

Read the web article, “Time to say goodbye to “natural disasters,” by Mami Mizutori.  The writer argues that …” there is no such thing as a natural disaster.”  What explanation does the author give with this statement? What is the #NoNaturalDisasters Campaign all about?  What does it seek to promote?

In addition to the historical background, take note of the application of the NDRRM framework from the national level down to the barangay level.  This is important for later application in the course especially for the fieldwork.
