Assignment 1:  My Favorite Teacher

 As part of the lesson on effective teaching, please reflect on who has been your most favorite teacher/s.  Think back from the time you were in pre-school up to your time in LU3.  Identify who have been your 3 most favorite teachers (or if you have been extremely fortunate, even your top 10 favorites).  Try to think back on your significant experiences with them and their characteristics that made you appreciate them as teachers. 

 Write a 5-10 sentence essay (maximum of 300 words) describe your significant experiences with your favorite teachers and why these were memorable.  Try to identify characteristics, traits and qualities that are similar among and unique for each of  them.

 Assignment 2:  Instructional Design

This assignment will show how well you are able to apply the lessons in instructional design.  This assignment represents 80% of your grade. 

 To develop your instructional design, use the following guide questions and steps:  

  1. What lesson do I want to teach or share?  Why do I want to share this?
  2. Who is my target audience?  How many are they?  What do they know prior to participating in this lesson?  What has been their past learning experience?
  3. How long do I have to engage with my learner/s?
  4. What is my general objective for the course?
  5. What are my specific objectives?  Are the cognitive, psychomotor or affective objects?
  6. Write the learning objectives so that they are SMART.
  7. How can I present the content in a logical manner?
  8. What is the best method to deliver the instruction?
  9. What resources do I need to prepare to deliver instruction?
  10. How do I know that my students have learned the lesson?  What assessment tools are available to me?  Choose the appropriate evaluation method.
  11. Fill in the appropriate areas in the template provided below as you answer the questions.

 As a culminating activity for this module,  please write a short essay (5-10 sentences, maximum of 300 words) on how you think you will be able to apply the lessons in this module now or in the future.  You may use any or all of the following guide questions to answer to focus your essay:

  1. How do I see the role of a doctor as a teacher?
  2. How can I, as a future physician apply the lessons I have learned to where I am now as a medical student?
  3. How can I grow into my role as a physician who can teach? 
  4. What do I need to do to improve my teaching skills?
